Net Exchange Addresses Dash Optimization User Group

Net Exchange disuses the application of optimization software to the commerce function of deal-making.

MIAMI, FL, November 7, 2001 – San Diego-based Net Exchange, the leading Deal Optimization solutions provider, will present at the annual Dash Optimization User Group meeting today. Held in Miami, this event is dedicated to the topic of optimization software and its present and future uses in business processes. Net Exchange co-founder and president Dr. Charles Polk will lead a session entitled "Optimization in Combinatorial Markets," to discuss how optimization technology can be used to create more efficient markets.

Dash Optimization is the leading provider of optimization software and technology. The User Group meeting seeks to educate current users and partners about the rapidly evolving field of optimization and the innovative ways it has been implemented.
The term optimization refers to technology used to calculate the best possible utilization of resources needed to achieve a desired result, such as minimizing cost or process time or maximizing throughput, service levels, or profits. Products like Dash’s flagship XpressMP software solve large-scale optimization problems and enable better business decisions which result in financial benefits in areas such as supply chain management, operations, logistics and asset management.

An expert in market design, Dr. Polk will discuss how optimization software such as Dash’s XpressMP can be used to optimize market-based commerce. Net Exchange builds Commerce Management Solutions around its proprietary combinatorial deal optimization engine, which embeds optimization software. The firm’s Commerce Management consulting practice uses economics to design a market, operations research to engineer that market, and computer science to construct that market. The resulting computational combinatorial markets yield superior markets by increasing liquidity, reducing trading risk and improving acceptable trading outcomes. Net Exchange’s work represents the first commercial application of computational combinatorial optimization to date.

According to Dr. Polk, ”Many firms rely on Dash’s optimization software to improve internal planning processes such as the supply chain. However, applying optimization tools to a company’s decentralized functions, such as market coordination, is still a very new concept. Well-designed combinatorial markets, in which optimization is a key component, can improve the value and efficiency of many types of commerce.”
“Net Exchange is focused on the intersection of supply chain management and inter-firm commerce. This next frontier in optimization will enable firms to improve supply chain decisions based on evolving market conditions. Development of this kind of capability is a very promising area within optimization,” according to Dr. Polk.

“Our experience in the optimization field has convinced us that optimization has almost universal applications, many of which have not been fully explored. Net Exchange has pioneered the use of optimization software to improve how markets operate”, said Alan Dormer, Director of Dash Optimization. “We look forward to working together on new markets in a range of industries.”

About Net Exchange

Net Exchange is the experienced provider of solutions that optimize the value, immediacy, and adaptability of transactions that comprise deals. Key to this capability is Net Exchange’s proprietary methods that deliver Total Deal Optimization across the lifetime of a deal. In May 1994, faculty from the California Institute of Technology formed Net Exchange to commercialize solutions based on advanced research in computational combinatorial deal-making (CCDM). These solutions marry planning optimization techniques with deal-making and help firms to increase the value of deals with their trading partners. Higher value deals result from superior transactions that lead to an expansion of commerce among firms. To date, Net Exchange has developed deal optimization solutions for logistics, financial, and derivatives trading. For more information about Net Exchange, visit www.nex.com, or call (858) 724-0390.

About Dash Optimization

With its leading edge XpressMP optimization software, Dash has been at the forefront of optimization software development for more than ten years. Dash concentrates exclusively on software products and provides optimization software and components to end users, consultants and value-added resellers, such as systems integrators and solution providers.

XpressMP has an excellent reputation for solving large, real-world problems quickly and reliably. For example, Dash has become the leading supplier of optimization technologies to the process industries, traditionally the area where the most difficult optimization problems are encountered.

Through working closely with their customers and innovative algorithmic developments, Dash has remained responsive to the market’s need for large scale problem solving. Dash also provides a high quality support service to help its customers and business partners get the best possible results with the products.

Dash has offices in the UK and US, and distributors in Europe, the Far East and Japan.
